COURTESY VISITS TO THE NAMIBIAN PORTS AUTHORITY (NAMPORT)

NEW BRAZILIAN AMBASSADOR PAID A COURTESY VISIT TO THE PORT OF WALVIS BAY

The new Brazilian Ambassador to the Republic of Namibia, Her Excellency Vivian Loss Sanmartin paid a courtesy call to Namport last Friday, 19 August 2022. The purpose of the visit is a result of the Excellency’s roadmap focusing on maritime, agricultural and industrial cooperation between Namibia and Brazil. And also to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries and their ports as outlined in her credentials recently handed over to the Namibian Head of State.

The CEO welcomed the gesture by the Ambassador and shed light on the fruit reaped from all the hard work over the years by Namport in partnership with Walvis Bay Corridor Group and stakeholders in Brazil to develop business and trade opportunities between the two nations.

MINISTER OF FINANCE AND DIRECTOR GENERAL OF NATIONAL PLANNING COMMISSION  CALLS THE PORT OF WALVIS BAY

The CEO of Namport, Mr Andrew Kanime welcomed Hon. Ipumbu Shiimi,  Minister of Finance and Director-General of the National Planning Commission, Hon. Obed Kandjoze to the Port of Walvis Bay and further thanked the delegation for taking time off their busy schedules to visit the Port of Walvis Bay. On their part, Hon. Shiimi articulated the premise of their visit to Erongo Region as part of phase one of Government’s mid-term budget review as well a review of the medium-term expenditure framework for the next three years. The Minister of Finance underscored the importance of regional consultations with key stakeholders and that feedback obtained at grassroot levels serves to inform the National budgeting process. “These consultations will additionally form as a catalyst to address the real need of Namibians”, the Minister stated. The two guests further added that Namport is an important stakeholder to the Ministry of Finance and National Planning Commission, thus the decision by the two State Principals and their delegation to visit the Port of Walvis Bay.

The visitors also commended Namport for its great financial performance and expressed satisfaction with a positive growth trajectory and the fact that the Ports Authority has managed to stabilise its finances, and advised Namport to prioritise reinvestments in the business over dividend declaration to ensure the provision ofcost-effective and efficient port services.
