MATERIAL RECOVERY FACILITY PLANT INAUGURATION: ERONGO REGION

Rent-A-Drum PTY Ltd entered into an agreement with the Municipal Council of Swakopmund in 2015 to invest in Swakopmund on a recycling sorting plant, promoting recycling and waste management in the coastal areas.

Extensive research and planning processes were done during 2013-2014 in co-operation with municipalities, consultants and academic Namibian and international partners.  The planning process included a formal Environmental Impact Assessment submitted to the office of the Environmental Commissioner in Namibia. 

The recycling plant was launched on 04 September 2015.  Since 2015 the recycling plant recycled an average of 160 tons per month, whereby the households of Swakopmund contributes an average of 60 tons per month.  The building was constructed large enough to install the very first MRF plant for the Erongo Region.  The Material Recovery Facility (MRF) Plant for the Erongo region was inaugurated on the 15th of November 2019 at 14:00.

Rent-A-Drum launched the first MRF for Namibia in 2010 in Windhoek, and the first Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) plant for Namibia on 15 March 2017.
